 SORYNO ECHO v1.0.0
 Delay (Windows / VST3)
================================================================

Thank you for choosing SORYNO ECHO.

This plug-in is free. It is not a demo. There is no time limit, no feature
timeout and no nag screen. There is no paid version of it either - this is
the whole product.

It is a delay. What makes it different: it draws every repeat as a dot on
the beat grid and paints amber the repeats that land on the next note -
the echoes that make the next word or hit muddy. It answers "is this delay
getting in the way?" with something you can see.

* At MIX 0 % the audio that comes out is bit-for-bit identical to the audio
that goes in. Latency is zero (0 samples).

■ System requirements
----------------------------------------------------------------

  OS Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit)
  Format VST3
  Sample rates 44.1 / 48 / 96 / 192 kHz
  Channels Mono / Stereo
  Extra software None
  Latency 0

  * The Visual C++ redistributable is NOT required.
  * There is no macOS version and no AAX (Pro Tools) version.

■ Installing
----------------------------------------------------------------

Double-click Install.bat. Administrator rights are not needed.

  It installs to:
    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Common\VST3

Rescan your plug-ins in your DAW afterwards. Hosts that show categories
  list it under "Delay".

  * About the Windows warning
Windows may show "Windows protected your PC". This is because the
installer is not signed with a (paid) developer certificate. Choose
    "More info" -> "Run anyway".

  To uninstall:
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File install.ps1 -Uninstall

  * Put it directly on a vocal or instrument track, or on a send (aux).

■ Following the DAW's tempo (SYNC)
----------------------------------------------------------------

With SYNC on, it reads the tempo (BPM) from your DAW and repeats at the
NOTE length you choose (1/4, dotted 1/8 and so on). If the tempo changes
  during the song, it follows.
    Example: 1/4 at 151 BPM = 397 ms

With SYNC off, or when the host sends no tempo, it repeats at TIME (ms).

■ Reading the display
----------------------------------------------------------------

  Top: ECHOES ON THE BEAT
white bar at the left the original sound
dots one repeat each (later to the right; height =
level; later repeats darker). With PING-PONG
they sit on two rows, L and R
faint band NEXT NOTE = where that repeat lands on the
                            next note
short bars LOUD ENOUGH TO MUDDY = how loud a repeat must
be to muddy the next note
amber dots dots inside the band and above the bar
= repeats that land on the next note and muddy it

  Bottom: OVERLAP VIEW
The last 8 seconds scroll from right to left.
      white line the incoming audio
blue area the repeats (as you hear them)
amber repeats sitting under the next note, making it muddy
triangle the start of a new note that has amber under it

The big number on the right is the share of playing time (last 8 s) in
which the echoes run into the next note.
  * Lower FEEDBACK or raise DUCK and the amber shrinks right away. The dots
are redrawn with the current knobs even while playback is stopped.

  * The amber shows best on vocals, drums and single instruments (sounds
with clear note starts). On a full mix there is little amber, because
    note starts cannot be found.

■ Controls
----------------------------------------------------------------

  TIME
SYNC on: follow the DAW tempo / off: use TIME (ms)
    NOTE 1/16T, 1/16, 1/16., 1/8T, 1/8, 1/8., 1/4T, 1/4, 1/4.,
                1/2T, 1/2, 1/2. (T = triplet, . = dotted)
TIME 10-2000 ms (SYNC off, or no tempo from the host)

  REPEATS
FEEDBACK how long the repeats go on (0-95 %). It can never run away,
                even at 95 %
TONE trims highs and lows on every pass (0-100 %); higher makes
                later repeats darker and thinner
    PING-PONG   OFF / L -> R / R -> L - bounce between left and right, and
                choose which side starts

  MIX
DUCK lowers the repeats while the dry sound is playing (up to
24 dB), so they stay out of the way of a vocal and come
                through in the gaps
MIX balance of dry and repeats (0-100 %)

■ Presets (12)
----------------------------------------------------------------

Init 1/8, FEEDBACK 35 % (the starting point)
Slapback 110 ms, a single repeat
    Quarter 1/4, FEEDBACK 35 %
    Vocal 1/4 1/4 for vocals (DUCK 55 %)
Vocal 1/8 Dotted dotted 1/8 for vocals (DUCK 50 %)
    Vocal Wide 1/8 ping-pong for vocals (DUCK 60 %)
    Ping-Pong 1/8 1/8 ping-pong
    Ping-Pong Dotted dotted 1/8 ping-pong
    Triplet Bounce 1/8 triplet ping-pong
    Lead 1/4 1/4 for lead instruments (DUCK 35 %)
Dub dotted 1/4, FEEDBACK 70 % (long, deliberately
                        layered effect)
    Ambient Wash 1/2, FEEDBACK 75 %, ping-pong (wide)

■ A / B and "A>B"
----------------------------------------------------------------

Keep two settings side by side and switch between them.

A / B swaps the two settings (the audio keeps playing)
A>B * copies the current settings onto the other slot.
On B the button reads "B>A" and copies the other way.
** Whatever was in the other slot is overwritten.
Pressed it by mistake? UNDO puts it back.

■ With SORYNO VERB
----------------------------------------------------------------

SORYNO VERB (a reverb), released on the same day, shows "reverb running
into the next note" in amber in the same way. ECHO is for distinct
  repeats; VERB is for reverb.

■ The rest of SORYNO
----------------------------------------------------------------

    SORYNO VERB reverb
    SORYNO EQ equaliser
    SORYNO COMP compressor
    SORYNO LIMIT limiter
    SORYNO DEESS de-esser
    SORYNO TAPE tape saturator
    SORYNO CLIP clipper
    SORYNO METER loudness meter

All of them have a free version. https://pinzu.tech/pinzuaudio/

■ Update notices
----------------------------------------------------------------

SORYNO ECHO is free. When a new version is released you can download it
  from the same BOOTH page.

The plug-in checks for a newer version when its window opens. It shows a
notice if there is one; it never installs anything by itself.

  * Turning the check off
Right-click anywhere on the plug-in window and untick
    "Check for updates".

  * What is sent
Nothing. The plug-in reads one small text file on GitHub. No information
about you, your computer, your song or your usage is transmitted. If
there is no connection it quietly does nothing.

■ Checking the version
----------------------------------------------------------------

The version is shown next to the product name, top left:

    V1.0.0

  To verify the file itself:

  SHA256 (VST3\SORYNO ECHO.vst3\Contents\x86_64-win\SORYNO ECHO.vst3)
    9FB0A309BAD21DC644D5FEC74CB0D893B946D215A4D17D6F5AE84620EB2980DA

  In PowerShell:
    Get-FileHash "VST3\SORYNO ECHO.vst3\Contents\x86_64-win\SORYNO ECHO.vst3"

■ Troubleshooting
----------------------------------------------------------------

It does not appear in my DAW
    -> Rescan your plug-ins.

The repeats are out of time with the song
-> Check that SYNC is on. The graph title shows the tempo it is
following, e.g. "1/4 @ 151.0 BPM". If it says "no tempo from host",
the DAW is not sending a tempo and TIME (ms) is used instead.

  There is never any amber
-> Is it on a full mix? The amber appears on material with clear note
starts - vocals, drums, single instruments. There is none at MIX 0 %.

On a full mix the level went over 0 dB
-> A repeat is a copy of the sound, so when it lands on the next beat the
peaks add up. Lower MIX, or put a limiter such as SORYNO LIMIT after
it. (ECHO has no limiter on its output.)

"Play audio" stays in the middle of the graph
-> No audio has arrived yet. It starts drawing as soon as audio plays.
